13th WDC Annual Meeting

The 13th Annual Meeting of the World Diamond Council took place this year on October 15-16 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Hosting the event was be DMCC ( Dubai Multi Commodities Centre).

The Annual Meeting serves as a forum for WDC members to discuss policy and strategy matters related to the global diamond industry. On the first day of this year’s event, there was a WDC Board meeting followed by a dinner reception in the evening. The second day included the WDC Plenary Session and a gala dinner jointly organized by the WDC and the DMCC.

The WDC is an industry organization focused on preventing conflict diamonds from entering the global supply chain. In response to United Nations resolutions, the WDC was formed in 2000 and is the only organization where the diamond trade is represented in full, from producer to retailer.

The WDC is the single voice of the international diamond industry in a tri-partite initiative with governments and civil society known as the Kimberley Process (KP) which co-created the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) that both safeguards the shipment of rough diamonds and certifies them as conflict free. Today trade in conflict diamonds has been virtually eliminated worldwide.
