ONE VOICE FOR NATURAL DIAMONDS
JULY 15, 2026
A natural diamond begins its journey deep within the earth, billions of years before it is discovered. Long before it is admired in a jeweler’s window or given to mark one of life’s most important moments, it has shaped the lives of thousands of people. It has supported communities, created jobs and passed through the hands of miners, manufacturers, traders, designers and retailers across the world.
Few products have a story like that.
Yet, for all its richness, it is a story we have not always told well.
I will use this blog to explore that story. Sometimes I’ll share developments from the World Diamond Council and the work we are doing on behalf of the industry. Sometimes I’ll offer my thoughts on the challenges and opportunities facing the natural diamond trade. But above all, I want this to be a place where we remind ourselves why this industry matters and why its future is worth fighting for.
When I accepted the privilege of serving as President of the World Diamond Council, I did so with one clear objective.
To bring our industry together with One Voice for Natural Diamonds.
That is more than a theme for my presidency. It is a belief.
Our industry is remarkably diverse. It spans producing countries, manufacturers, traders, jewelry brands, retailers and many of the world’s leading luxury businesses. Every one of us sees the natural diamond through a slightly different lens.
Consumers do not.
They simply see the product and the story that surrounds it.
That is where the World Diamond Council comes in.
We must always remember what the World Diamond Council is, and what it is not. We are an apolitical industry organization whose role is to represent the global natural diamond trade within the Kimberley Process. We do not represent governments. We represent businesses and industry associations from across our industry. Our responsibility is to bring them together in support of responsible trade, constructive dialogue and confidence in natural diamonds. That responsibility requires us to apply our principles fairly, consistently and without political bias.
That means every part of our industry has a shared responsibility to build confidence in natural diamonds and to explain why they remain unlike anything else on earth.
For me, that is the role of the World Diamond Council.
Yes, we work to strengthen confidence in our trade through integrity, transparency and international cooperation. Those responsibilities remain fundamental to our work.
But they are not ends in themselves.
They are the foundations upon which a successful natural diamond industry is built.
If what we are doing is not helping this industry sell more natural diamonds, then we should ask ourselves why we are doing it.
That simple question has become the test I apply to every decision we make.
Over the months ahead, we’ll explore what that means in practice. We’ll look at why desire has always been the driving force behind luxury, why the journey from mine to market is one of the world’s great untold stories, how producing countries, manufacturers and retailers are bound together by a common future, and why confidence remains the cornerstone of everything we do.
I hope these conversations do more than keep you informed.
I hope they remind us that we are all part of something extraordinary.
Natural diamonds are among nature’s rarest creations. They carry with them billions of years of history, extraordinary craftsmanship and some of the most powerful emotions people experience in their lives.
That story belongs to all of us.
If we tell it with clarity, consistency and one voice, I believe the future of our industry will be stronger for it.
